Travel Caribou Hunting
November 20, 2006 at 03:45PM As you might have guessed, I didn’t manage to shoot any caribou on my recent adventure. If I had, I certainly wouldn’t have wasted any time in letting the world know.
In our defence, however, we ended up with only 1 1/2 days—and short days at that—to hunt. The rest was either spent in transit or getting our vehicles started after an evening of -45°C. During the time that we did have, we were able to get close to some caribou on two separate occasions, but on one we felt it was too dark (although it would have been legal for us to take a shot at the time), and on another a snow plow frightened a group of 25 or 30 away just before they were in our sights. Ah well, maybe next time.
I did, however, get lots of good photographs that I will slowly be posting to A. Stark Photo. Furthermore, I discovered the beauty of drinking hot butter rum in a nice warm wall tent. And to top it all off, I can now say that I was a player in the world’s longest game of Harry Potter Uno.

What is a warm wall tent?
We actually didn't sleep in it, since they can get pretty smokey inside. In fact, the stoves that heat them are often called "hippie killers," because they put out tonnes of smoke and are prone to start unwanted fires. Instead, we wrapped ourselves in absurdly large piles of fabric, with only a small hole to breath out of. It's fine until you need to take a bathroom break, and then you will hear some awful things muttered by even the most innocent souls.
Oh yes! and we stayed one night in Eagle Plains, in a hotel, with satelite TV, a restaurant, lounge, and foosball. But that's between you and me.
